MOOC for secondary education: opportunities and challenges

Abstract

Although Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) were proposed to promote higher education, in recent years they have been adopted in other educational levels. Today, there are several experiences with MOOC in secondary education. However, these initiatives are still incipient, and there is a lot to explore and learn in this field. This article presents a review of the most important MOOC initiatives in Higher Education, and analyzes the main opportunities and challenges for students, teachers and institutions. This work wants to be a starting point for researchers and teachers and/or managers interested in harnessing the potential of MOOC for mddle education.
