Abstract

This article presents thoughts developed from my experience as a tutor in Algebra 101 course, trying to prove that effective communication in virtual environments is a key element to stimulate and integrate the student to online courses. My experience as a tutor and a virtual student in the Programa de Formación Docente de Educación Media Superior has allowed me to see that the teaching-learning process within a virtual community requires interaction through communication tools to build a suitable learning environment, where the tutor acts as guide, facilitator and mediator between the student and the available resources in the virtual classroom.
