The use of study guides in distance education Martha Corona Tinoco* y Miguel Gómez Francisco Reynaldo

Abstract

Study guides in distance education are a way of facilitating and directing student performance. This article reviews several issues regarding the construction of study guides: activities that increase in cognitive complexity, activities that avoid excessive encyclopedic content. These study guides should be distributed at the beginning of the course and advances per unit should be requested. Using guides allows students to work in a more precise way.  Results have demonstrated that if students follow instructions in the guide, one can expect improvement in learning, performance and grades.

Key words: guide, distance, metacognition, self-regulation.
