Abstract

This paper is an analysis of factors involved in student’s academic performance and directly related to failure and dropout; this way, by revealing them students’ needs are estimated and, therefore, actions to counteract these problems from the tutoring program can be taken. Within the framework of the present text the following subjects can be found: identification of needs from tutoring, highest impact factors in failure and dropout, methodology for identifying needs, independent learning and independent learning in the curriculum of the Virtual Baccalaureate.
